Mission

Providing safer options and support as it relates to preventing domestic violence.

About Us

The organization founded in 2004 was conceived as a result of the need for women to have a positive, nurturing support system which would offer prayer assurance and love through the journey. Through God’s vision, the founder, Brooks J. Young, felt an overwhelming call to open her heart to women and children affected by domestic violence.

Our organization was birthed with the hope of fulfilling a need for transitional housing for survivors of domestic violence. Domestic violence has been a silent issue for a very long time. Touching Heart is committed to be an advocate to eradicate domestic violence but its also our God given purpose to help every woman who enter our center.

The Vision

In 2011, Touching Heart will open the Destiny and Purpose Women’s Resource Center. The purpose of this center is to give women a one-stop resource place where renewing of their minds and spirits becomes possible as soon as they walk through the doors.  The center will have a private library, child care area, computer lab, workshop and conference rooms, dayrooms, and an education center.  Thank you for your support in helping to make DPWRC a reality for women through your generous donations to Touching Heart!

Program & Services

Our overall goal is to change the pattern of abuse in the lives of women and children.  Touching Heart commitment to providing a comprehensive, centralized base of support for women and children is evident by the programs and services provided for the women and children who seek our assistance.

Residential Program

Operated in a confidential location of Gwinnet County, our residential program is a 2 year transitional home with the ability to accommodate 21 domestic violence victims and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Residents receive food, clothing and medical assistance to address their physical needs. Additionally, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, domestic violence education, legal and social services advocacy are provided to address their emotional needs
Touching Heart’s children’s program provides children of all ages a safe, nurturing atmosphere where they are offered individual counseling to raise self esteem and educational group services that focus on prevention and intervention of family violence. Additionally, mothers receive family counseling promoting positive and effective parenting skills. Children may attend local public schools while in residence.

Community Outreach

This program seeks to build community awareness and support by providing domestic violence education and training to the community

Prevention & Education Program

Program provides domestic violence education, presentations, trainings and other resources to schools in the community on topics such as Teen Dating Violence and Healthy Relationships.

Doorways to Destiny

Women who escape abusive relationships often do so in a hurry; sometimes they leave in the middle of the night with just the clothes on their backs, literally. Touching Heart  recognizes that the decision to leave requires a great deal of courage. Finding clothing suitable for the workplace should be the last of a survivor’s worries. For this reason, Touching Heart has established ‘Doorway to Destiny: Infinite Possibilities Await You,’ which provides new and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories at no cost for women who have gained the courage to close the door on Domestic Violence and open a new door…the door to their new destiny.

Our goal to end domestic violence needs the assistance of concerned individuals who want to make a difference in their community.
